Friday is deadline for AT&T cellphone refunds

Friday is the last day for AT&T mobile phone customers who had unwanted charges added to their monthly bill to apply for a refund.

The charges came from third-party subscriptions or services that were never ordered or authorized. Many customers weren't aware they had been paying up to $9.99 for things like ringtones, horoscopes and celebrity gossip.

AT&T reached a $105 million settlement with the Federal Trade Commission in October. Of the settlement, $80 million will go back to customers in the form of a refund, $20 million in penalties to states and $5 million to the Federal Trade Commission.

According to USA Today, the deadline is June 30 for T-Mobile customers. Verizon and Sprint are still in settlement negotiations.

If you think you may be eligible for a refund and want to find out you can call the FTC at 877-819-9692.
